handbrakeHandBrake is our favorite video encoder for its simple, easy-to-use, easy-to-install, and powerful tweaking options to get the best convert quality as a result. It’s a open source tool for converting video and DVD to nearly any format, available for Windows, Linux or Mac OS X.

It’s perfect but only can read and transcode non-protected DVD. For it is illegal. So you need to use a 3rd-party software to remove the proctection first, for example, AnyDVD is a good choice, then read and rip the DVD with HandBrake.

DVDFab HD Decrypter: Copy DVD and Blu-ray to blank disc or hard drive, two copy modes available

dvdfab-hd-decrypter
Actually, DVDFab HD Decrypter is part of DVDFab DVD Copy and Blu-ray Copy. So it is more like a DVD Copy rather than DVD Ripper. Works as a free DVD Decrypter, it can remove the protection and copy DVD/Blu-ray content to bland disc or hard drive(free version may not support latest decrypt protection). It enables you to either copy the full disc or just copy the main movie.

The free version can just do 1:1 copying, doesn’t support compress a DVD9 into a DVD5. Or you will need to pay. It can load disc, folder and ISO image, and output the same.

MakeMKVMakeMKV can quickly and easily rip DVDs and Blu-ray discs to high quality MKV files with a single click. It can just output in MKV format and supports all commercial DVD and Blu-ray discs protections. DVD ripping will always be free, but Blu-Ray ripping is only free for as long as 30 days.

MakeMKV converts the video clips from proprietary (and usually encrypted) disc into a set of MKV files, preserving most information but not changing it in any way. So it’s very fast, it can converts as fast as your drive can read data.

Note: The MKV format can store multiple video/audio tracks with all meta-information and preserve chapters. There are many players that can play MKV files nearly on all platforms, you may interested in Best 4 MKV Players on Mac OS X.

We will introduce three methods for different situations. Please choose the right one for yourself. If you have backed up your phone before, you can try the former two methods. Or maybe you have to try a 3rd-party software, which is not free. But please note that if you are not sure you ever backed up your phone, you’d better try the third method first. Because restoring from iTunes or iCloud backup may overwrite the data on your phone.

Method 1: Restore from iCloud Backup

1. To erase your iPhone, tap Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings. You might need to enter your passcode and Apple ID password before you erase all content and settings. Why would I do that? Because the only way to restore from an iCloud backup is through the Setup Assistant. To get to the Setup Assistant on a device you already set up, you’ll need to erase all the content on your iPhone and set it up again.
2. Turn on your device. You should see a Hello screen.
3. Follow steps in the iOS Setup Assistant. Join a Wi-Fi network and follow steps until you see the Set Up Device screen.
4. Tap Restore from an iCloud Backup. Then sign in to iCloud.
5. Choose a backup. Look at the date and size of each and pick the most relevant. After you choose a backup, the transfer starts.
6. If you’ve purchased iTunes or App Store content using multiple Apple IDs, you’ll be asked to sign in to each. If you can’t remember a password, you can tap Skip this Step and enter it later.
7. Stay connected. If you disconnect from Wi-Fi before the process completes, the restore process pauses until you reconnect. Give the process time to finish. Restoring from a backup can take a while, depending on the size of the backup and the network speed.

5. Click restore and wait for the process to finish. Your device will restart and then sync with your computer. Stay connected until the sync finishes.

To retrieve the deleted notes on your iPhone, you need to install an iPhone data recovery program first. There are many this kind of software on the market now, here we use Dr.Fone for example.
1. Download the program here. Or go to the official website.
2. Install it.
3. You’re supposed to install the latest version of iTunes. Because the program will call partial function of iTunes. But you don’t need to run them at the same time, and it is best to disable the automatical syncing in iTunes. (launch iTunes > Edit > Preferences > Devices, check “Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically”.)
3. Connect your iPhone to the computer and run Dr.Fone. By default, it will detect your iOS device automatically and shows the window for “Recover from iOS Device”.

This method applies to all iPhone generation running iOS 5 or later. But you should know that, this will erase the current content and settings on your iPhone first and then copy the old data. It means if you have some new messages after you accidentally lost SMS, then you may lost the new texts.

Method 5: Restore lost messages from iTunes backup (Free)

This method is applicable to all iOS device. If you didn’t disable the automatic sync option in iTunes, it will back up your phone every time you synched your iPhone with iTunes. You can easily retrieve the messages with those backups.

3. After iTunes recognized your iPhone, click Restore backup button, or choose File > Devices > Restore from Back up. If you are using iTunes 10.7 or earlier, right click the device from the list and choose Restore from Backup.

But its disadvantage is the same as Method 4, You should always keep your iTunes backup up to date. Or you may lose your current data and settings since the iPhone would be fully erased and go back to the previous status.

And there is no ways to preview the contents in the backup, also can not only to recover part of them. So I suggest to use iPhone Data Recovery.
